Social Empowerment and Voluntary Association
SEVA is a grassroots non-governmental organisation committed to working with vulnerable and underserved communities and creating practical, sustainable solutions to the challenges they face.
SEVA believes that meaningful development begins by understanding people, listening to their needs and working alongside communities rather than simply working for them. Over the years, the organisation has been engaged in initiatives aimed at improving the lives and resilience of communities through social development, humanitarian support, livelihood promotion, environmental action and community participation.
SEVA’s approach is rooted in a simple principle:
Development becomes sustainable when communities become participants, not just beneficiaries.
The organisation works closely with local communities, volunteers, institutions and other stakeholders to identify genuine needs and translate available resources into meaningful action on the ground. SEVA places particular importance on transparency, responsible implementation, measurable outcomes and long-term community ownership.
Our Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
For SEVA, environmental protection is closely connected with the well-being of rural communities.
In regions facing water scarcity, extreme heat, land degradation and uncertain agricultural conditions, restoring and protecting natural resources is not only an environmental responsibility but also a social necessity.
SEVA therefore seeks to promote environmental initiatives that go beyond one-time activities. Its focus is on restoration, protection, community participation and long-term sustainability
The proposed 15,000 Tree Plantation & Stewardship Programme in Parbhani and Latur reflects this approach.
SEVA does not see plantation as simply an exercise of putting saplings into the ground. The organisation believes that the real measure of success is whether those saplings survive, grow into healthy trees and continue to benefit the community for years to come.
Through community engagement, protection, maintenance and regular monitoring, SEVA aims to create a sense of shared responsibility for the trees and the environment around them.
Working With Communities
SEVA believes that local people understand their environment better than anyone else. Their participation is therefore central to the organisation’s work.
Whether it is a village, school, farming community or local institution, SEVA encourages people to participate in planning, implementation and monitoring. This helps transform development programmes from externally supported projects into initiatives that communities can gradually own and sustain.
SEVA’s Vision
A society where every individual and community has the opportunity to live with dignity, resilience and hope, while living in harmony with the environment.**
SEVA’s Mission
To work with communities and partners to address social, environmental and livelihood challenges through participatory, transparent and sustainable interventions that create lasting positive change.
Our Belief
At SEVA, we believe that impact is not always measured by the size of a project.
Sometimes, it is measured by a farmer who feels less vulnerable, a child who learns to care for nature, a community that comes together to protect its resources, or a tree that survives a difficult summer because someone decided to take responsibility for it.
We believe in creating change that continues even after the project ends.
